The 3PO Protocol Droid was a model of droid produced by Cybot Galactica for human-cyborg relations sometime prior to the Invasion of Naboo. Each droid was equipped with a SyntheTech AA-1 VerboBrain making them capable of storing enormous amounts of information, the additional memory space was often used to keep communication modules in the active memory so that long delays could be avoided while searching for linguistic information on mid-translation. A TranLang III communications module allowed them to be fluent in over six million forms of communication, even if they could not respond in all of them for a lack of proper communication appendages. They also had the skills necessary to quickly analyze new unregistered languages and translate them into more well-known ones.

Each 3PO came with a factory-installed restraining bolt mount, a passive behavioral suite (a typical 3PO droid will not attack under any circumstances), and a shutoff switch at the back of its neck.

Some models, such as the pricey E-3POs, also included the TechSpan I module, making it possible to interface with Imperial networks and undocumented technologies of Imperial subcontractors.

Built to resemble humanoids, 3POs come in a variety of colors and had a similar aesthetic design to other Cybot Galactica droid model series such as the TC-series, 3PX-series, and 5YQ-series protocol droids.

3PO-Series Droids can be played as Droid Heroes.

Notable Units

C-3PO was an example of this model, though he was rebuilt out of spare parts.

H-3PO was a name used by Popara the Hutt's group of protocol droids. The droids relayed information updates between themselves on a regular basis, allowing them to coordinate chores and errands while still communicating with their fellow droids. For example, H-3POA was given to Vago for use in negotiating. H-3POB served onboard the Imru Ootmian, Popara's personal starship. H-3PO droids were different from other 3PO-series protocol droids because their access systems were able to understand a verbal signal from a specific individual. They had advanced sensors and communications systems and were even designed with self-destruct mechanisms.

The ii77 was one of the many variants to the standard 3PO-series protocol droid that was developed and manufactured by Cybot Galactica. The ii77 droids were considered boutique droids, aimed at a specific market.
