To build a lightsaber you must have the Force Sensitivity and Weapon Proficiency (Lightsabers) feat and proficiency in the Use the Force skill.

The lightsaber was the weapon of the Jedi, a distinctive weapon, the very image of which was inextricably bound with the mythos of the Jedi Order and their polar opposites, the Sith. The lightsaber also became synonymous with the Jedi Order's values to uphold peace and justice throughout the galaxy. This perception endured, despite the many conflicts with lightsaber-wielding Sith and Dark Jedi.

For over a thousand years, Jedi younglings traveled to the ice caves to harvest their own crystals, which they then used to build their lightsabers. The Force guided their selection, finding a crystal that matched them as Jedi. To those not meant to receive it, the crystal was cold to the touch, but those the crystal chose would hear its "music" and "harmony," becoming attracted to it.

Crystals lacked color before they were chosen by a Jedi. Once chosen, most lightsabers became blue or green, though other shades were created in some instances. The color or the crystal and the blade was an expression of the Jedi's personality and connection to the force.

You can build any type of lightsaber you wish. The materials required to create a standard lightsaber have a value of 1500 credits. 500 credits is the value of the kyber crystal. The remaining components include the blade energy channel, two cycling field energizers, two energy modulation circuits, the blade arc tip, primary crystal mount, energy gate, power cell, power field conductor, the power vortex rings, and the inert power insulator. Large sized lightsabers (such as a double-bladed lightsaber) require a component cost of 2500 credits, and Small sized lightsabers (such as a short lightsaber) require 500 credits.

During the existence of the Jedi Order, these components were provided to the Jedi youngling upon completion of the Gathering, after he had collected his kyber crystal.

Once the materials are gathered, the Jedi must spend 8 hours studying diagrams and learning from a Jedi who has constructed his own lightsaber. A diagram might be provided by the Order, however, in the Dark Times, such instructions may need to be saught out in ancient tomes or holocrons.

Once their study is complete, the Jedi must then spend 3d8 +8 - his Wisdom modifier uninterrupted hours constructing his weapon.

At the end of this time, make a DC 15 Use the Force check; you can't Take 20 on this check. If the check succeeds, you complete the lightsaber's construction. If the check fails, you may begin the construction process again. If the check fails by 10 or more the lightsaber will explode for 3d6 energy damage in a 2 square radius ruining the components, though the kyber crystal will be unharmed.

Once the lightsaber is constructed, you may spend a Force Point to attune it (a Full-Round Action). From that point on, you gain a +1 bonus on all attack rolls made with your self-built lightsaber. No one else who wields the weapon gains this bonus.
