Mai'ceric (Mace) and his sister Sinkhor'aria (Kora) were born on Taris, the children of ozyly-esehembo ("sky-walker") explorer and a failed Jedi. They grew up on the streets of Taris' lower city, Kora looking out for her younger brother with only a golorecording from their mother giving any knoledge of their lineage.

After boosting a swoop and giving the owner's gang a wild chase around the undercity, Kora was offered a chance to join. She did, keeping her brother close.

Mace remained with the Dianoga Gang until one day, when thugs from another gang made crude threats to his sister, he force-pushed one over the edge to fall to his death.

After hearing the story, Amatrine, the leader of the gang, reached out to her secret friend, the hidden Jedi Jared Thane. Jared arrived on Taris at the same time as an Imperial Inquisitor and managed to keep Mace alive.

They trained in secret, along with Jael Wildstar, in the depths of Taris, but Empire was getting closer to discovering them, especially with the addition of another student, Mex Prudo.

Jared took his students to the forest moon of Endor where he had been marooned for years, along with Adyna Wildstar, a student of the Jedi teachings among other things.
